Love Letters

From Edinburgh, Copenhagen, Berlin, Havana, Beijing, Paris…

They are illegible texts, broken, eroded images… but, in my eyes, they possess a serene and authentic beauty that only the passage of time can bestow.

More than just a piece of marble with a date and a name, the headstone of a niche or the slab of a tomb on the ground is, above all, a love letter.

Time passes, centuries go by. The passerby of this era — who, with luck, will only be able to recognize a surname that seems familiar — will know nothing of the one who died or the one who commissioned those letters, but will nonetheless feel the pain of loss.

The promise of eternal love is fulfilled in the cemetery, because it survives through the centuries.
